(11/22/11) - A Thanksgiving Week tradition was renewed in courtrooms across the state Tuesday.
Dozens of families celebrated Michigan's ninth annual Adoption Day by signing the final paperwork in front of friends and relatives.
In Flint, Jim and Shannon Clements formally adopted Remy and Sophie, finishing off a process that began in 2008.
"I practically raised the kids since they were...almost since they were born. Close enough. And I've always felt like they've been mine the whole time, just kinda makes it official on paper," Jim Clements said.
At least 30 Michigan counties participated in Adoption Day.
State officials say about 3,000 children are still in need of a permanent home.
