(12/02/11) - More details have been released in connection to an investigation into a methamphetamine lab found inside a home in Bay City.
Two people have been arrested, and there could be more arrests as investigators say meth continues to be a big problem in Mid-Michigan.
Meth labs were once found mainly in rural areas, where they couldn't be detected easily, but investigators now say they are starting to more of them in populated neighborhoods.
Rick Murphy heard the police were at a home on Lafayette Thursday afternoon. Investigators with the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team say they found a methamphetamine lab inside a home on Lafayette Thursday afternoon.
"Lafayette and Monroe, I was like, that's over by our house," said Rick Murphy of Bay City.
A man and a woman, both in their 30s, have been arrested.
No children were in the home, but there is evidence that children did stay there.
"It shouldn't have been happening, even with kids, man, come on now, responsible adults should have more common sense than that," Murphy said.
Lieutenant Mark Uribe of BAYANET says meth, the highly addictive drug, is still keeping drug enforcement teams busy.
"What I've been seeing in the last year is that meth is picking up in the area. We have almost tripled the amount of meth labs we've done in the last year," Uribe said. "But now, what we see now, because they can make methamphetamine in one bottle, we now seeing in more in our cities, and in neighborhoods."
Uribe says investigators got a tip that meth was being produced in the home. He says more of that has to happen to combat methamphetamine abuse.
"We need the public to go out and start making phone calls and keep giving us tips on where meth labs are because they are a threat to our neighborhoods and to our children," Uribe said. 36-year-old Jennifer McCarthy and 32-year-old Matthew Heeren were arraigned on manufacturing and possession of methamphetamine charges late this afternoon.
