(01/27/12) - Flint's North End Soup Kitchen has received a big boost in its quest to serve the community.
Loads of donations rolled into the facility this week, including 325 bars of soap, 342 rolls of toilet paper, and dozens of cases filled with shampoo and other essential products.
All of the items were collected through a Martin Luther King holiday effort, spearheaded by HandsOn Genesee.
"This is an overwhelming response to what we thought was a small effort to help the North End Soup Kitchen. And to see thousands and thousands of dollars of product come in. Tow Men and a Truck gave us the boxes, and people just filled them up. I am really shocked at how well it went," said Julie Zaher of HandsOn Genesee.
Catholic Charities, which runs the North End Soup Kitchen, plans to distribute the donations to people in need throughout Mid-Michigan.
