FLINT (WJRT) -
(1/30/12) - It's historically, or in this case, prehistorically, the most popular attraction at Flint's Sloan Museum.
"This show, by far, has had the biggest buzz. People love to see the dinosaurs," said Sloan Museum marketing director Cathy Gentry.
"Discover Dinosaurs and Other Prehistoric Creatures" is back in town for the first time in nearly six years, with a revamped look.
"These dinosaurs are brand new, and a whole new group. We even have dig kits for the kids to do their own archeological digs," Gentry said.
The traveling exhibit features 10 true-to-life robotic dinosaurs, both herbivores and carnivores, providing what you might call a cinematic performance.
"It's very much like Jurassic Park. The sites and sounds are huge. We even have a simulator where you can be the dinosaur," Gentry said.
To help boost the educational experience, the Sloan plans to bring in several archeologists and other dino-experts between now and early May.
"Kids in school learn about predator and prey tactics. This exhibit talks about that, and we also have additional public programs. The next 14 weeks, we'll have 15 different programs," Gentry said.
President's Day weekend will feature a Fossil Festival.
"We'll have stations spread throughout the whole museum. You get to collect tokens and trade them in for fossils," Gentry said.
The Sloan Museum's dinosaur exhibit runs through May 6, with extended hours on Thursday nights.
