Madison Academy offers compromise with suspended student

Posted: Updated:
BURTON (WJRT) -

(01/31/12) - A Mid-Michigan Charter School is giving a student another chance after he was suspended for violating rules regarding the length of his hair.

J.T. Gaskins of Burton attends Madison Academy.

The 17-year-old cancer survivor wants to make a donation to Locks of Love, but school policy requires male students to have clean, neat hair that's off the collar.

The school is now offering up a compromise in support of his good intentions.

In a statement, Madison Academy says Gaskins, a senior, can return to school if he agrees to keep his hair out of his face and off his collar, while allowing him to continue growing it out.

So far, Gaskins, nor his mother, have agreed to the deal.
