(02/09/12) - A local school district is coming together in support of one of their own, battling leukemia.
The "Play for the Cure" game started as a show of support for breast cancer, but over the holidays, the team found out a first grader was sick, and they wanted to include her too.
The Bentley varsity girls took on Genesee Thursday night in Burton, but before the game got underway, the Bentley team honored the fighting spirit of 6-year-old Allie See, a first grader at Barhitte Elementary.
Each player walked out with a cancer survivor from the community, including several school employees.
They also gave Allie a gift basket filled with arts and crafts and her favorite--princesses!
We're told more than $1,000 was raised for the See family.
The team also signed the pink ball they used in the game and gave it to Allie.
