Winter weather catches drivers off-guard

Posted: Updated:
GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(2/10/12) - Across Genesee County, police and tow truck drivers were busy responding to accident calls following Friday night's winter weather. All across Genesee County police and tow truck drivers had their hands full, answering call after call because of Friday's winter blast.

"It was completely fine, it just got worse in about a half hour maybe," said Heather Cohoon. She was traveling near Fenton and Maple Roads in Grand Blanc Township, when the van she was riding in with Eric Cohoon got hit. The van was forced up onto the curb, where it landed on a metal sign. "Pushed our bumper in. If it wasn't for that, we'd be on our way right now," said Eric.

"The ice is the big deal right now," said Grand Blanc Township Police Officer Brian Sevard. "Cars just sliding, losing control and tapping into other cars."

It has been a very busy night for William Shagena with All Automotive in Burton. He has answered a variety of calls ranging from minor fender benders to flat tires. He doesn't see his night getting quieter anytime soon. "We're staying pretty busy tonight."

We haven't had any reports of any serious accidents in Genesee County.
