Gas prices reach $4 in Mid-Michigan

Posted: Updated:

(03/02/12) - $4 a gallon is about how much it'll cost drivers in Mid-Michigan to gas up. Gas stations across the region jacked up prices on Friday.

Some drivers say the price increase snuck up on them. Others says they knew it was bound to happen.

"It's just been jumping pretty quickly. It's kind of ridiculous," said Andy O'Neil.

O'Neil says it costs him about $140 to fill up his Ford Excursion. During the week, he uses it to drive to school at Lansing Community College.

"It's awful with school. I pretty much work to put fuel in my car," O'Neil said.

And he knows it's not going to get much better any time soon.

"I heard it's supposed to be $4.50 or $5 by the summer. I don't really like it, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do," he said.

"I wish I would've filled up earlier today," said Richard Masters.

Masters says he's considering getting rid of his pickup truck to help save money.

"I want something that gets 30 miles per gallon again. Fifteen to 16 MPG isn't worth it anymore," said Masters.

Joe McMorris says he's going to stick with his four-cylinder Jeep, but he probably won't travel as much.

"You can't dwell on the past. You just have to look forward," McMorris said.

Gas prices have now been on the rise for 24-straight days thanks to the soaring price of crude oil.
