(03/29/12) - Forget about the Final Four. Former Flint Central and Depaul University basketball star Marty Embry is focused on something much bigger.

"This is cooking madness. That's what it's called. Cooking madness, but its fun," Embry said.

Embry's "From the Court to the Kitchen" line of seasoning salts and coney spices are contenders in Walmart's "Get on the Shelf" competition.

"Think about it. You're walking down the aisle, and then all of sudden, you look to the left and there's your product.  I think that's every chef's dream," Embry said.

The online vote is open to the public and runs through April 3.  Embry needs to make it into the top 10 in order to move on to round two. The grand prize winner will have his products placed on Walmart's shelves across the country.

"I need everybody that knows me to get a Facebook or text. I need the votes. That's the bottom line," Embry said.

Embry's line consists of 11 products, and he's currently working on his eighth cook book.  His recipes are influenced from years of playing professional basketball overseas.

"When you play for an Italian league, you become acclimated to that food, so I learned how to do it from the ground up. Then playing in Belgium with the French cuisine, and then in Spain, the Spanish cuisine. Now I have a fusion, including Japan. Even the turkey burger, it's going to have an Asian flare to it," Embry said.

And along with that flare comes something special on the side.

"The secret is that I put a lot of love into it. That's all I'm saying," Embry said.
