Five vehicles stolen from Owosso lots, $85K Escalade included

OWOSSO (WJRT) -

(04/12/12) - What started as two people inquiring about three SUVs, ended with five vehicles stolen from an Owosso car dealer.

A brand new, $85,000 Cadillac Escalade is included in that count.

Tony Young, owner of Young Chevrolet-Cadillac, believes the vehicles were taken one week ago around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night and then into very early Friday morning.

But with more than 800 vehicles on his lots, no one noticed the five vehicles were missing until the weekend.

"We realized it Saturday morning when we got looking for one of the used Escalades that somebody had somebody looking at," Young says.

It was missing, and so were three other used vehicles.

"A used Denali, used suburban and used CTS Cadillac," Young says.

As well as a brand new, $85,000 Cadillac Escalade.

The five vehicles swiped from three of Young's lots in Owosso.

"Probably $180,000 worth of cars," he says.

"We tried OnStar, but by the time we realized it Saturday morning, they'd already disabled all the OnStar," Young says.

Young declined to say how he believes the thieves were able to steal the vehicles but did say two people came into one of his dealerships earlier in the day and looked at three of the five taken.

"We had copies of drivers licenses and they ended up being fake."

Young believes it took less than an hour to do what they did.

There is surveillance video and Young thinks someone driving by could have possibly seen something.

"There's only one main road. You got to be pretty brave to come in and do something like that or even take the time to steal wheels and tires because we are lit up and we are right next to the road," Young said. "We close at 8 p.m. So do a lot of other car dealers. When you see something, we could sure use an extra pair of eyes once in a while just to say hey, 'It doesn't look right.'"

Michigan State Police are investigating.
