Residents speak out at Flint budget presentation

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) -

(04/30/12) - Nearly one week after Emergency Manager Mike Brown passed Flint's 2012-2013 budget, the people of Flint had their chance to weigh in.

Monday evening, at what was officially a budget presentation, Brown called the budget "the first steps towards stability and restoring financial solvency."

A nearly-packed City Hall crowd had other words to describe the budget. The biggest complaints involved increased water-and-sewer fees and the reduction in the number of police officers in the city.

Many also complained about a lack of democracy, pointing out that they did not vote Brown into office and that only after the budget passed were they allowed to comment.

Before the public forum, Brown quickly outlined the budget. Through a spokesperson, Brown declined comment, after the meeting.
