WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJRT) -

(05/24/12) - Staff Sergeant Travis Mills of Vassar is on the road to recovery after a devastating explosion in Afghanistan that claimed his limbs.

Mills is receiving treatment at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center just outside of Washington, D.C.

Thursday night, dozens of sixth grade students from Vassar took a detour while on their class trip to our nation's capitol, to show their support for the hometown hero.

It's a heartwarming story you'll only see on ABC12.
