(05/25/12) - Friday was Karen Gatlin's last day at ABC12 - after more than 31 years!
Karen has been just as much a part of our lives here at abc12 during those years, as she has been for so many of you.
ABC12's Larry Elliott shares a little fun, reminiscing about the difference Karen has made in so many Mid-Michigan lives.
Karen started her career at ABC12, fresh out of radio. It was the very early 1980s and she was Karen Owens.
She quickly distinguished herself with extensive in-depth reporting on the cleanup of the toxic waste site at Berlin and Farro.
It wasn't long before she was named news anchor.
Over the years, Karen has anchored virtually all newscasts at ABC12, but for most of you, it was the years she spent saying 'Good Morning' that brings back memories.
Karen had interviewed countless news makers for us, investigated difficult and important topics, and she's traveled the Great Lakes and the back roads of the country.
She's helped us celebrate the Crim Festival of Races, and also shared a personal side - her wedding day and the start of her family.
Now, she will be trading in her title as Michigander to become a Floridian.
Thank you, Karen, for all you've given over these 31 years, to so many of us in Mid-Michigan.
You will forever be in our hearts.
Leave your well-wishes for Karen in the comments section of this page.
