(06/15/12) - The third annual Back to Bricks promo tour left Flint and hit the open road Friday morning. The seven day trip races all over the mitten.
"Lake City, Cadillac, Grand Rapids, Comstock Park, Sturgeous," said Aileen England, Back to the Bricks tour director. "It's going to be nuts with the horns beeping, and the whoo, whoos!"
"And the big thing about it is that every town is unique, and every town just opens their doors to you," said Gerry Childs, Back to the Bricks tour member.
"I always cause quite a scene when I show up, and the whole gang is the same way," said Back to the Bricks tour member J. Dallas Winegarden. "We have a blast."
These cruisers aren't just having fun - they're working hard, encouraging people to visit Flint the week of Aug. 14 for Back to the Bricks.
"I feel like I'm Billy Durant promoting Flint all over the state of Michigan. It's a great thing. Back to the Bricks will be great this year, kicking it off with a great cruise. It's doesn't get any better than that," Winegarden said.
There's no doubt about it. There are plenty of high risk cars taking the promo tour this year, but you won't have to worry about this 1932 Ford Coup breaking down. It comes complete with power windows and even air conditioning. Who knew?
"If you want to look cool and be cool, you've got to have air conditioning," said Chuck Sekrenes.
Consider it a sign of the times - several classic car owners have left their gas guzzlers at home, and instead are driving something more fuel efficient.
"We have an old car and it gets nine miles to the gallon. This gets 25 miles to the gallon, and it's a lot more fun to drive. Take something green and make a new classic out of it. That's right," Childs said.
Right now, the cruisers are heading toward Mt. Pleasant for an overnight stay.
