(06/25/12) - After nearly eight years as the head of the Saginaw Police department, Chief Gerald Cliff is retiring.

In a statement, the city says Chief Cliff's retirement will take effect July 10.

The city also credits Cliff for helping reduce crime in Saginaw to its lowest level in nearly 30 years.

He's also recognized for developing and using new technology like the RAPTOR Center.

After retiring from the Saginaw PD, Cliff will head to Fairmont, West Virginia where he will serve as the research director for the National White Collar Crime Center.

A leadership transition plan for the Saginaw police department will be presented to city council members in two weeks.
