Body of Carnel Chamberlain discovered under family's porch

Posted: Updated:

(06/28/12) - The body of a missing Isabella County boy was found under the porch of the family's home, according to family spokesman Kevin Chamberlain.

The victim is 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain.

He disappeared a week ago, while in the care of his mother's boyfriend, and crews have been searching ever since, trying to find him.

Carnel's remains were discovered Thursday afternoon on the Tomah Road property.

That's east of Mt. Pleasant, on the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Reservation.

The FBI is now involved in the investigation and so far, federal officials and tribal police are being pretty close-lipped on details surrounding the case.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab is also on the scene, helping to process evidence.

The mother's boyfriend, Anthony Bennett, had previously been identified as a person of interest in the case. At that point, police had said he wasn't cooperating with investigators.

The cause of Carnel's death is not being made public yet and so far, we're not aware of any arrests tied to the case.

Stay with ABC12 for the developing details.
