FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(07/05/12) - A thunderstorm did a double-whammy on one Mid-Michigan family. Two houses they own were damaged by falling trees.

Strong winds tore through Flint Township about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. One woman heard the storm and glanced at the house she owns across the street.

"I heard the winds pick up and I got up and I came to my kitchen window and looked out. A tree had fallen across the house," said Linda Adams.

Her granddaughter and a friend were staying there.

"We got them out of the house, got them back in our house. We were sitting in the front room looking out the front window. And they're going: Grandma, there are sparks across the street," Adams said.

That house, also owned by Adams, had caught fire after trees brought down electric wires. Adams called 911 but because the dispatch center was so busy she was asked if she could be put on hold.

"What do you mean "hold"? There's four people in that house," she told the dispatcher.

The fire department arrived and prevented extensive fire damage. No one was hurt. Now comes the clean up.

"I said: The trees need to go!" Adams said.

Her daughter lived in the house that was damaged first, but she wasn't there at the time.

"I'm waiting for my daughter to come home because it's going to blow her mind," Adams said.
