MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -
(07/08/12) - Consumers Energy says it is making progress getting the power back on.
As of Sunday morning, 7,400 homes and businesses remained in the dark across the state.
That's down from 153,000 at the peak of the storm on Thursday.
Genesee County remains the hardest hit area, with 2,437 customers without power.
Gratiot County only has 75 outages. Meantime Saginaw County has 710, while Shiawassee County has 1,074. Those numbers were reported at 4 a.m. Sunday.
Consumers reports 800 of its workers, along with several other utilities and electric contractors from Michigan and other states, are working to get power restored.
They expect to have everyone's power back on by late Sunday night.
"We sincerely appreciate the patience of our customers as we've safely worked to restore power in what have been very hot, challenging weather conditions," said Garrick Rochow, Consumers Energy vice president of energy delivery. "Sunday's cooler weather will assist us in our final restoration work."
