(07/10/12) - Financial help is on the way for people affected by the devastating floods that hit Genesee County back in May.
The U.S. Small Business Administration opened a Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Flint Township Tuesday.
There, homeowners, renters and business owners are able to apply for low interest loans to help offset the cost of rebuilding from the flood damage.
More than two months after flood waters damaged Detris Watson's Flint Township home, the pain is still fresh.
"I can't even cry anymore," Watson said.
Detris says 8 feet of water ended up inside her basement.
It broke through our window, so not only did we have water coming through the drains, we had all of the outside water pouring in through the windows."
Tuesday started the road to recovery.
"This loan, actually it means make it or break it for us," Watson said.
The Small Business Administration is offering low interest loans to home and business owners, renters, and non-profits who are drowning in debt and damage following May's floods.
"It's used to repair the home, replace personal property, in case of renters or homeowners, and to get them back to pre-disaster conditions," said Nathanial Kirkland, SBA Disaster Reserve Specialist.
Watson will take any help her family can get, after a serious mix-up with her insurance. After the flood, she found out a new policy she was promised was not in effect in time.
"This loan, I've actually prayed, and I'm praying that it goes through," she said.
