Grayling man drowns in Clare County lake

Posted: Updated:

(07/08/12) - The Clare County Sheriff's Department says a 25-year-old man from Grayling drown while on a local lake.
The sheriff says Robert Howe was being pulled behind a pontoon on a tube when he fell into Lake George just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The lake is in Lincoln Township.

Emergency crews and several people on the lake searched for Howe.

He was found in 15 feet of water. CPR was immediately started, but Howe was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

One other person was on the tube with Howe when he fell into the lake. That person was not hurt. Neither person on the tube was wearing a life jacket.

The sheriff's department does not believe alcohol played a role in the accident.
