DETROIT (WJRT) - (07/11/12) - Hockeytown is gearing up for a big winter, but not just at Joe Louis Arena. The Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and representatives from the OHL have released plans for a series of events leading up to the 2013 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Year's Day.
The lead-up includes an outdoor festival, college hockey games, minor league hockey games, and an Alumni Showdown.
An Ontario Hockey League Double-header is scheduled for Dec. 29, including a game between the Saginaw Spirit and the Windsor Spitfires.
The Alumni Showdown will feature two games of legendary players from both the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs. Tickets will be made available in mid-August. Fans can register for information at www.DetroitRedWings.com/2013winterclassic.
