MT. PLEASANT (WJRT) -
(07/12/12) - A federal indictment has been filed against the man accused of assaulting 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain several weeks before the little boy was found dead.
The indictment replaces a temporary assault charge that put Anthony Bennett behind bars late last month.
Bennett lived with Carnel's mother on the Saginaw Chippewa Indian reservation near Mount Pleasant when the boy was reported missing on June 21.
His body was found a week later underneath his porch.
Bennett has not been charged in the boy's death.
