Flint residents complain about abandoned homes

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) -

(07/12/12) - Flint is again on record pace for demolishing abandoned homes, but it's not quick enough for some local homeowners.

Richard Buck says he can't get a home equity loan, because abandoned homes are dragging down his property value.

Thanks to grants, the Genesee County LandBank has actually torn down more than 1,000 homes in and around Flint in the last year. Doug Weiland, executive director of the Genesee County Land Bank, says in prior years they'd only demolished as many as 700.

Weiland says it would cost $50-60 million to demolish all the vacant homes worth demolishing in Flint.
