Two men arrested after bank robbery in Burton, standoff in Flint

GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(07/13/12) - Burton Police say witness tips led them to a home in Flint where two men were arrested, after about a two hour standoff, Friday.

It started with an armed robbery, in Burton, at the Family Community Credit Union on East Bristol.

Less than 30 minutes later, police from all over Genesee County had a home in Flint, on Raskob, surrounded.

About two hours later, two men were in custody.

Burton Police believe banks, in other areas of Genesee County, on different dates, could have been hit by some of the same people involved Friday.

The connection was made Friday morning, between the credit union and home in Flint, because people called information in.

"We had some great witnesses at the bank that were able to give us a license plate and then we had other witnesses in the neighborhood able to connect the two vehicles," says Burton Police Lt. Michael Odette.

There were two vehicles because police believe the three or four men involved dumped a car, which was reported carjacked in Flint Thursday, after the bank robbery, then got into an SUV and went to the Flint home.

That home is on Raskob, between Lavender and Ballenger.

It was a tense situation that ultimately ended well with no injuries or shots fired.

"Friday the 13th. Supposed to be a bad luck day," said Huda Townsend, while watching the situation on Raskob unfold. "Well I know they're not going to get lucky. That's for a fact."

That's putting it lightly.

Police are now looking into whether the two men arrested, and maybe others, can be connected to other crimes.

Another Friday the 13th incident, in Flint, could be connected.

There was an armed robbery at the Flint Municipal Credit Union, on Steven Street, around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 13.

Surveillance video Flint Police released then, shows two men wearing white, ghost-like masks.

One of them has a handgun.

Burton Police mentioned similar masks Friday, but believe three men were inside the credit union robbed.

There was at least one handgun, according to police.
