Land dispute leads to heated talks in Holly Township

HOLLY TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(07/18/12) - Tempers flared at a Holly Township board meeting Wednesday, all because of a land dispute.

There was a heated discussion between residents and board members over a 20-acre piece of property once owned by Tim Smith and his family.

It was back in February when we told you how the Smith's home was foreclosed on after Tim became ill.

The family discovered there were technical issues with their original loan.

The Smith's only owned half the property and the township owns the other half -- which is where their home sits.

Now, the family is living in an RV on the 10 acres they own.

At Wednesday's meeting, the Smiths and several friends asked the board to work with them on a solution until a Court of Appeals ruling, which could be months away.

No action was taken at the meeting, but the board said they are willing to discuss a number of different options with the family.
