FLINT (WJRT) -
(07/24/12) - The victim is said to be in good condition.
A volunteer at the Eastside Mission says he saw it all.
Aaron Gilbert says he was standing about 40 feet away from the corner, saw
the gun, heard the shots and then saw two men in a Blazer duck down.
"I've heard about it but never seen anything like this," Gilbert says. "I
hunt, but that's not shooting at somebody else!"
Gilbert got an eyeful Tuesday afternoon standing outside Flint's Eastside
Mission where he volunteers.
Gilbert says he first saw two SUVs stopped at the intersection of Franklin
and Delaware.
"I didn't hear any words exchanged. I seen them both stop and once they had
stopped, the guy just kind of pulled his pistol out," Gilbert says.
The SUV carrying the victim, an older model Chevy Blazer, now has at least
two bullet holes in the driver's side window.
The driver made it a couple of blocks away to Oklahoma, near Vernon.
The Eastside Mission's director says some volunteers have stopped coming
around because of crime like this.
"It's unsafe around here and it's sad," Gilbert said.
This shooting follows another violent week in Flint.
Flint Police say there have been 42 homicides, so far, in 2012.
That's nearly 10 more dead than there were this time last year. That's also
about 10 more than Flint saw during 2010, when the number of homicides hit an
all time high at 66.
