Truck drivers in high demand

Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) -

(07/24/12) -  Across the country, the "help wanted" sign is out for truck drivers, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says that demand is expected to keep rising for the next several years to come. They say there could be 330,000 more trucking jobs between 2010 and 2020.

Mike Royston, site coordinator for Baker College-Flint, says their truck-driving program is becoming more popular with students and employers. "This is one of those professions that's not at the top of everybody's list," Royston says. "Not a lot of parents tell their kids, 'Gee, you should grow up and be a truck driver.'"

Royston says the truck-driving course at Baker College is becoming more popular, and businesses are actually coming in to recruit students. In fact, he says almost every student has a job offer before he or she graduates.
