(07/30/12) - The Corunna Dam, on the Shiawassee River, is at risk of failing.
That's according to state officials, who are warning people to avoid an area downstream of the dam.
The Department of Environmental Quality announced Monday it is beginning an emergency draw-down of water behind the dam, after inspections determined the structure could fail suddenly.
Repairs are planned.
A full draw-down of the water behind the dam is expected by Aug.12.
