Extreme race Warrior Dash also gives back to sick kids

GENESEE TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(07/30/12) - It's not just about crawling through mud or jumping over fire, it turns out the Warrior Dash is also about giving back.

Saturday's event raised nearly $100,000 for sick children.

As the 2012 Warrior Dash kicked off, you might wonder, "Who in their right mind would pay for this experience?"

The course sends competitors crawling through mud, maneuvering over cargo nets, leaping over fires, and if you survive that, you still have to scramble under barbed wire to get to the finish line.

But organizers tell us 25,000 took part and an estimated 5,000 others came to watch.

And in the midst of all the fun, there was also the spirit of giving.

Michigan participants raised nearly $100,000 for St. Jude's research and treatment of pediatric cancer.

10,000 muddy shoes were also donated to Green Sneakers, who will make sure they make it to someone in need.

Another way Red Frog gives back, donations were also made to non-profit groups that provided 25 or more volunteers for the Dash.
