LakeVille school bond: third time's the charm?

Posted: Updated:
FOREST TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(07/31/12) - Next Tuesday, voters in the LakeVille School District will go to the polls to vote on a school bond proposal for the third time in just over a year.

The newest proposal aims to raise $7.58 million over 15 years for updates to the football stadium, as well as improvements to safety and technology in their schools. The 0.9-mill increase is smaller than the previous 1.5-mill proposal, and would cost the average taxpayer $30-45 per year.

The August proposal is also the last chance to take advantage of a federal bond, which would save the district nearly $2.5 million. If the bond fails, the money goes to waste.

Earlier this month, the bleachers at the football stadium were condemned. School superintendent, Vickie Luoma, says she's considering bringing in temporary bleachers or other options to best serve the team, band, and fans.

The track at the field has not been used for meets since 2005, though the team still practices on it.
