(08/01/12) - Get ready to fire up the grill. The Labadie Pig Gig is about to take over Bay City's Veterans Memorial Park - again.
"I can't believe it's 20 years. It's the best in the Midwest championship, and we get to sample all these wonderful ribs from across America and across the world," said Wendy Dore, Pig Gig Organizer.
Along with the ribs comes the music. This year's gig features four concerts.
"Thursday night is the Spin Doctors, Friday night Winger and Trapt, Saturday is American Idol winner Scott McCreery and Sunday ends up with Diamond Rio," Dore said.
A 5k run and a Harley Davidson teddy bear ride are also part of this year's extravaganza.
"It's a great fundraiser and what's going to happen after 20 years is that we'll reach the million dollar mark for our local non-profit organizations," Dore said.
But back to those ribs - defending champ, Paul MacKay - the Aussom Aussie - is competing in his 20th pig gig.
"We've been fortunate enough to be featured on the Food Network and Travel Channel and some of the other stations. It's done us really well, and we're happy to be here," MacKay said.
The Aussom Aussie isn't just here to greet his fans - he's here to win.
"We start to cook our competition ribs three days before. We prep them, we cut them, trim them, and then season them, and kind of do a long process, and we cook them nice and slow," he said.
The Labadie Pig Gig runs Thursday-Sunday.
ABC12's John McMurray and Kevin Goff will be out there on Friday for the celebrity rib-off.
