Saginaw little league team heading to regionals

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(08/01/12) - A Saginaw little league team will be representing the state of Michigan this week in a Great Lakes Regional tournament in Indiana.

And if they win that game, they'll be moving on to the Little League World series.

This is a first for this age group in the Saginaw area.

"I'm nervous, but at the same time excited, to play other states and represent Michigan," said Reed Schnepf, a member of the team.

Their coach says they've won districts three years in a row, which is a feat in itself. But this is the first time a Saginaw 12-year-old age group team has made it this far.

"We've been doing a lot we practice every single day, we work really hard and take ground balls and do a lot of hitting," said Kameron Munoz, a member of the team.

If they win regionals this weekend, the regional finals will be broadcast on ESPN; then they could be off to the Little League World Series.

That's something these boys have been dreaming of.

"You watch all the MLB players on it and it's like, oh I just want to be there and do that, and now we have the slight chance to do it," Schnepf said.

And parents couldn't be prouder to see their sons work so hard.

"It is unbelievably cool, these guys are a great group of kids, they won the state championship two years ago and so it's good to have a chance to turn around and do it again," said Mike Kalandyk, whose son is on the team.

The boys leave Thursday at 8 a.m.
