Michigan schools get tough grades for performance

MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -

(08/02/12) - There is yet another way to determine just how well your child's school is performing.

Thursday, the Michigan Department of Education released another report card.

The one measures how well Michigan schools are performing.

The report looks at how well students perform in core classes, like math and science and graduation rates.

That information is used to place Michigan schools in three categories, reward, focus or priority.

A reward school means a school is among the top 5 percent or has shown strong improvement.

A focus school means there is a large achievement gap between students.

A priority school means a school is in the bottom 5 percent of schools in the state.
