(08/03/12) - Troy Police and Michigan State Police were in Genesee County's Montrose Township for hours, but found nothing.
That's some 60 miles away from where investigators believe 55-year-old Patrick Mikes Sr., of Troy, was murdered in his basement.
His son is a suspect. Mikes Sr. was reported missing Sunday, but last seen last Thursday or Friday.
Troy Police say a tip, stemming from a flier passed out earlier this week in the area, led investigators to search around Montrose Township.
Police declined to comment on what prompted them to focus their attention in Genesee County in the first place.
"It's usually so quiet down here that you don't see much," said Carol Szumlinski.
So quiet that people living off the private road, McKinley Court near McKinley Road, tend to notice things - like an unfamiliar car. Michelle Cook did.
"I want to say last week sometime I saw a vehicle similar to this. Can't guarantee it was the same one. It was similar," Cook said.
Carol and Daniel Szumlinski say a Troy Police officer came to their door Thursday with the flier.
It shows two views of a charcoal colored Infiniti.
"He told me they had five cars out combing the area, giving out pictures," Daniel Szumlinski said.
"They had the dogs out here on a leash, a long leash, and they come up the hill and went all the way down to McKinley," Daniel said.
The Montrose Township Fire Department assisted in the search with boats and ATVs down near the Flint River off McKindley Court.
Troy Police say Montrose Township is still of interest and haven't ruled out another search.
They especially want people to keep an eye out for a bike belonging to the victim.
