(08/06/12) - Thousands of military veterans are expected to make their way back to Mid-Michigan this year, and many will be looking for work.
There are local companies putting out the "help wanted" signs, but the hiring mission has been a little tougher than they expected.
We talked to Two Men and a Truck and E.L. Hollingsworth Monday.
Jeff Berlin is CFO of E.L. Hollingsworth in Flint. He also served in the Marine Corps and was disappointed at the response when he offered a free truck driving school for veterans honorably discharged in the last 12 months. "I know there's veterans that need work," he said.
In Flint Township, 26-year-old vet Jacob Lockman found employment with Two Men and a Truck, but the company tells us there's still plenty of work available.
Lockman remembers being nervous about returning back home. "Family and friends told me there weren't many jobs and how tough it would be to find a job."
Two Men and a Truck in Flint Township is hiring and if you're a veteran, your application gets some special attention.
Even at companies making an effort to hire ex-military, the big question is, what kind of jobs will veterans take a chance on? Employers already know why they want to hire them.
Two Men and a Truck in Flint Township needs to hire six workers in the next two weeks.
E.L. Hollingsworth has 50 positions they're looking to fill.
