Flint City Council fights to stop EFM

Posted: Updated:

(08/09/12) - The battle over having an emergency financial manager in Flint is far from over.

Thursday, the Flint City Council passed two resolutions to stop Ed Kurtz from taking over as the emergency financial manager.

Council president Scott Kincaid says Flint has the right to appeal an emergency financial manager coming in and that didn't happen.

They did not do a financial review in the city of Flint. They just made the decision to appoint and emergency manager. So I think they violated Public Act 72 to begin with," Kincaid said.

On Wednesday, the Michigan Board of State Canvassers voted unanimously to put a repeal of Public Act 4 on the November ballot.

As a result, the 2011 law is suspended and the old law goes back into effect.

The Local Emergency Financial Assistance Loan Board then voted to put former emergency financial manager Ed Kurtz in charge.
