(08/10/12) - The Crim Fitness Foundation's mission is to change lives through health and wellness education.
Now they're joining forces with Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy for a unique partnership.
Rachel Harris and her 3-year-old daughter Harley have been through some tough times.
"Me and Harley have overcome homelessness, domestic violence, everything, we've overcome so much," Harris said.
Now they're taking on another challenge, but this is one they've gladly committed themselves too.
"To have a goal, a positive goal to do together is just growth and experience for me and Harley," Harris said.
The pair will participate in the Crim for the first time. Rachel will run the 5K, while Harley will run the teddy bear trot.
Rachel and a dozen other women with Flint's St. Lukes New Life Center are involved thanks to a new partnership with Crim and Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy.
"You recognize that it's Rachel's story, but it's the other 11 women running with Rachel, and then the message that they're going to take out and what could this program be next year? Maybe double or triple," said Phil Hagerman, Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy.
Next year, the goal is to have the women join a training group and complete the 10 mile.
"Once you cross the finish line of a race, you have experienced this piece in yourself that you can do anything you want because you were able to accomplish this goal and that sort of just carries through you're life, in all areas of your life," said Patricia Ball, Crim director.
"I want her to look at me setting goals, and trying to achieve them and I want her to see that I can do it and she can do it if she just sets her mind to it," Harris said.
