MONTROSE TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(08/10/12) - A body, believed to be that of a murdered Oakland County man, has been found in Genesee County.

Police made the discovery about 11 a.m. Friday.

It was several feet inside the edge of a cornfield, off Morrish Road, near Lake Road, in Montrose Township, according to Troy Police Captain Bob Redmond.

The body is believed to be that of 55-year-old Patrick Mikes Sr. of Troy.

Police are waiting on positive identification.

Troy Police evidence technicians and staff from the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office combed sections of the cornfield throughout the day Friday.

It's some 60 miles away from where investigators believe Patrick Mikes Jr. murdered his father, Mikes Sr., in their Troy home.

"Clearly the scene of the altercation was in the basement of the home," Redmond said.

Crews had been searching for his body, in the area, last week and as recent as Thursday.

"We literally searched 25 square miles," Redmond said. "We were not going to give up searching, because it was the right thing to do."

Redmond says they ended their search Thursday night a mere 30 feet from where the body was found Friday morning.

It had been "tossed" into the cornfield, he says.

"A bike, matching the description of a bike being searched for, was found about 15 feet from the body."

Redmond declined to comment on the condition of the body.

Police previously declined to comment on why they focused in the Montrose Township area to begin with, but say two residents reported seeing a car matching the description of one they were looking for.  It belongs to the victim's son.

Mikes Jr. has been charged in his father's murder.

He's being held, without bond, in the Oakland County Jail.

Mikes Sr. had been reported missing by his sons.  He was said to have gone on a bike ride and then to have not shown up for work July 27.
