FLINT (WJRT) -

(08/13/12) - Flint's golden girl was back where it all began Monday - bringing her Olympic medal home to Flint.

She'd been traveling all day, and Monday, she celebrated her victory with her family and friends.

It was an emotional reunion for Claressa Shields, as she ran into the arms of loved ones at Flint's Bishop International Airport.

Her homecoming is fresh off of her gold medal win Thursday.

She made history at the Summer Olympics in London last week becoming the first American ever to win a gold medal in women's boxing.

Hundreds gathered at the airport to welcome her home. Her plane landed just before 6 p.m.

The crowd then went to Flint's Berston Field House, where she trains, to continue the celebration.

The 17-year-old helped shine a positive light on the city where she grew up, trained and dreamed of this moment.

Shields starts her senior year of high school in two weeks and now she's the face of women's boxing across the world.

She is also expected to put the sport on the national map.
