(08/17/12) - One of Michigan's largest Corvette reunions is about to take over Back to the Bricks.
"We have a lot of big events leading up to this day, but this is the showstopper," said Donta Hampton, Corvette owner.
"This is our third year in. We'll have 500 plus Corvettes. We have people coming from six or seven different states," said Corvette Reunion organizer Gary Drago.
Saturday's reunion in downtown Flint serves as a heated competition, organized by four Flint-area Corvette clubs. A select few will earn spots in next month's statewide competition in Dearborn.
"We're going to have 150 that are nominated. Out of that, the top 30 will be picked for the competition. It's very similar to a Miss America contest," Drago said.
These pageant contestants were out cruising the catwalk early Friday morning in an unofficial attempt to impress the judges.
"I think we've got a lot of money out here. That's what it looks like," Hampton said.
All of these models came dressed to impress, but when it comes to flash, members of the Flint Trend Setta's Club claim they lead the way.
"Yeah, we have a little swagger, you could say that. We have a little style, yes. We like to get on the expressway and open it up sometimes," Hampton said.
"A nice red C5 Corvette. It has to be red. It has to be flashy. It's called Trend Setta's. It's called 'showtime' to me," said Earl Lewis, Corvette owner.
Saturday's Corvette reunion will be held right near the Durant Hotel in Downtown Flint.
Registration is free.
