Soldiers return home

FLINT (WJRT) -

(08/17/12) - Some Mid-Michigan soldiers agreed things are not improving in Afghanistan.

That's why they're thankful to return home Friday.

Soldiers with Flint National Guard Armory are getting to see their families for the first time in months.

For the past eight months, soldiers with Fox Company, which is based out of Bay City, have been deployed overseas, but Friday, they got to see their families.

Loved ones held posters that read "Welcome Home." They hugged the soldiers and told them how thankful they were to see them again.

A bus load of nearly 150 soldiers came home Friday afternoon.

Many said they missed spending time with their children since they've been gone.

ABC12 asked those who were deployed, as well and their kids, about their future plans now that they're home.

"I want to be with my girls. I have missed my girls immensely. I want to spend some time with my girls. They have to go to school and hopefully I can get some quality time with them, with the family and just get reacquainted," said Staff Sgt. Ron Prieur.

"I just missed seeing him and being able to hear his humor. Well, I just personally want to spend time with him and get all the time that I can," said Rachel Prieur, Staff Sgt. Ron Prieur's daughter.

Before soldiers headed to Afghanistan, they spent time in Camp Shelby in Mississippi where they had mobilization training.
