(08/20/12) - Saturday, thousands will fill downtown Flint for the 36th Crim Festival of Races.
A change made this year will bring something new and interesting to some of the popular mile markers.
The Crim Mile markers are a big part of the race experience. Participants anticipate them and rejoice, at least briefly as they pass them.
This year, they'll see some special touches, too. Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy came up with an idea.
"What we were trying to do is find a unique way to involve other members in the community to support both the Crim and the arts in our community," said Communication Relations Liaison Steve Wolbert.
This year, some of the mile markers including the finish line will be sponsored. And for the first time ever a team of artists will paint the markers.
Mile three was sponsored by a daughter for her dad, Tom Martin, who's running his 36th Crim this year.
Crim board president Mark Yonan and Merrill Lynch sponsored number seven.
Attorney John Tosto who lives right by mile eight snatched that one up.
North Gate and Powers Catholic sponsored number nine, also close by.
The five mile mark are doctors Bobby, Mukkamala and Nita Kulkarni.
Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy sponsored the finish line.
Nearly $20,000 was raised with proceeds going toward Crim Race Foundation the Greater Flint Art Council.
