(08/22/12) - He's a true legend of the bricks. Riley McLincha is ready to "drubble" his way through the Crim 10 mile for the 19th year.
McLincha warmed up for his Crim performance in grand fashion last week. He ran a mile while dribbling three basketballs - in just 8 minutes and 44 seconds. That time set a new world record. It's actually his second time making history.
"Back in 1978, I held for a short time the world record for memorizing pie to 7,500 places. I'm multi-talented," he said.
McLincha has something new in the works for this year's Crim. He'll be at the Expo Thursday and Friday, drumming up support for his 10 mile drubbling run, which will raise money for the Special Olympics.
"Drop into the Special Olympics booth. Make a donation, put their name on the ball, and I'll dribble the basketballs all over the city of Flint with the names on it," McLincha said.
Before he gained fame as The Drubbler, McLincha took the "easy way out" and just ran the 10 Mile. On Saturday, he'll become one of only 21 people to have participated in all 36 Crims. It's an exclusive fraternity.
"We all know each other. We've gotten pretty close and made a lot of friendships over the years. We were all strangers back in 1977," McLincha said.
And how long can he keep his drubbling?
"Next year will be 20. I hope I'm around for 20. I'll be 62. Somewhere down the line, it has to end. We need to find someone to take over for me, I think," McLincha said.
