(08/24/12) - At least 10,000 people are expected to come out to the Saginaw WonderFest this weekend.
The event is a way to honor Stevie Wonder, who was born in Saginaw.
The musician got his start playing as a child at the First Ward Community Center before moving to Detroit.
Wonder will not make an appearance, but popular talent from all across the region will get to show off their skills.
"It's all kicking off noon at Saturday on Ojibway Island. We've got musicians from all different genres of music. From country to Jazz to R&B to gospel, to contemporary to pop to rock. It's going to be a fabulous day. It's supposed to be beautiful outside. It's going to be a great day to come out to the island and just enjoy the talent that's around the Saginaw area for the Great Lakes Bay Region," said organizer Shannone Dunlap.
Dunlap says there is also a tribute dinner Friday night at the Dow Event Center at 6 p.m.
"We have a tribute to Stevie Wonder. The most well known international super star that has been born from the Saginaw area. We're paying tribute to him at The Dow Event Center with the tribute dinner. Tickets are still available. You can still get them at the door," she said.
WonderFest is Saturday from 12-8 p.m. at Ojibway in Saginaw Island. It is free.
