(08/30/12) - Paul Ryan, Condoleezza Rice, John McCain - those are just some of the many GOP names who've spoken at the RNC this week.
But have you heard of Michelle Voorheis? The Mid-Michigan delegate was thrust into the national spotlight at Wednesday night's session.
Our viewers have gotten to know Michelle a little bit through our stories from the RNC this past week. But now, a lot more people will know of her after the opportunity she was given Wednesday night.
In a live interview shown on a giant monitor in front of the entire RNC Wednesday night, Michelle Voorheis of Clio talked about owning a commercial real estate business.
"First let me say that Obama didn't build my business, but he's doing everything in his power to tear it down," Voorheis said.
For three minutes, Voorheis discussed how she thinks the regulations for small businesses put into place by the Obama Administration are burdensome. We caught up with her Thursday, where she explained further.
"You can have a personal relationship with your banker who wants to loan you money, and the regulators come in, and they say, 'Sorry, not taking that loan,'" Voorheis said.
Voorheis says she was honored to represent other small business owners and talk about an important issue. It's also an experience she'll never forget.
"I got to be in the green room with every single speaker who came on the stage last night, except Condi Rice because she was on just before me," she said.
Voorheis' Mid-Michigan colleagues say her message was heard loud and clear on the floor.
"I've known Michelle for 10 years, and Michelle always tells the truth," said Republican delegate Prudy Adams. "She has a gift for conversation and a gift for gab. And we're very proud of her here in the fifth district."
Thursday's speeches include Jeb Bush and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, who will introduce Mitt Romney.
