(08/31/12) - The family of a 6-year-old girl who was shot and killed in Saginaw are asking for anyone with information about the crime to come forward.
Saginaw Police are following some leads in the shooting deaths of Layla Jones and Bobby Bailey.
Bailey was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon. Later that night, the little girl was shot to death. Her father was also injured as they stood outside a home.
The shootings occurred in the same northeast Saginaw neighborhood.
Layla's family made an emotional and passionate plea for someone to talk.
"This has to be one of the hardest tasks a mother has to go through," said Layla's mom Julie Polk.
Part of that task for Julie Polk is speaking at a press conference about her daughter's death and asking the public for help.
"Knowing that the person who was so careless in taking her life doesn't know that he took an angel from here and sent her away. We loved her," Polk said. I know we are not this heartless. I am a mother, and I would protect anyone's child and I would expect you to do the same for mine."
"Tomorrow it may be your family, the next day it might someone else's family, no matter what it is, please come out," said Larry Polk, Layla's stepfather.
Saginaw County Prosecutor Michael Thomas made his own plea. "We have to get some help from people in the community to help solve these cases," he said.
Layla's cousin, Corey Pritchett, was to the point when it came to calling out those who know what happened, but say nothing. "Stop being cowards. There is no snitch code for cowards," he said. "You may try to withhold information from police, but God is eternal and God knows everything and you will not, you will not escape the wrath of God. Come forth, repent unto God and do the right thing because you will reap what you sow."
If you have any information on these murders, you are asked to call the Saginaw Police Department or the Saginaw County Prosecutor's office.
