Tips lead to arrests of 3 men suspected of killing 6-year-old girl

Posted: Updated:

(09/02/12) - Saginaw Police say they have arrested three men suspected of shooting and killing a 6-year-old girl.

Layla Jones was shot Wednesday night in the 1100 block of Essling Street.

Her father was also shot, but survived.

Detectives tell ABC12 they arrested three Saginaw men, all in their 20s, between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Police tell us tips from the public help lead them to the men. The tips came in after Layla's mother and other family members held a press conference Friday. At that event, they pleaded with someone to come forward.

We are also told Layla's shooting is believed to have been retaliation for another shooting that took place earlier in the day. In that shooting, 21-year-old Bobby Bailey was gunned down in the same neighborhood.

Police tell us Layla and her father were not the intended victims.

Monday afternoon, the Saginaw County Prosecutor charged Rico Saldana, Levonne Greer and Michael Lawrence with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and firearms charges.

Lawrence has not been arrested and is considered armed and dangerous. If you know where he is, call Saginaw Police.

A fourth person, Julian Ruiz, was charged with being an accessory after a murder.
