(09/05/12) - Last year, we told you about the grand opening of the Davison Dog Park. The park is part of a trail connecting Davison and the Township.
Now, thanks to the hard wok of a community member, that park is expanding again.
For the past couple of years, the trail has been frequented by runners, walkers and cyclists.
"I think it's great. My girls and I get out here like twice a week and ride the trail and take it into town and we go get ice cream, we use it very often," said Christie Loffredi.
Near the trail, there's even a recreational area for four legged friends.
Last fall, community members celebrated the grand opening of the Davison Dog Park. Now, they're celebrating another milestone.
The 45 acres of corn field just off the trail, across from the dog park, will soon become an extension of the Davison Community Park.
It is a dream come true for Bob Callis, a longtime Davison resident. He is the mover and shaker behind the project.
"This is one of the happiest days of my life, in that five years ago, we started this project called the Callis Project to acquire this land, and now we got it," he said. "I love this community and I want to see it grow, I want to see recreational facilities for everybody and this is a good example here, this trail."
Callis has organized countless fundraisers to help support the effort.
"I think Bob has been a tremendous leader and cheerleader and I don't think he's replaceable," said Bob's daughter, Lorrie Callis.
Lorrie says this project is one their entire family is cheering for.
They've worried their father wouldn't see his dream realized. He has been suffering from cancer for years and is currently receiving treatment.
"I'm thrilled that he has seen this happen in his lifetime and I'm not sure that would happen, and it has," Lorrie Callis said.
Construction on the addition could start this fall.
