Police organizations upset with Saginaw city manager

SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(09/08/12) - Saginaw City Manager Darnell Earley's comments during that Friday morning news conference at City Hall have two police organizations upset.

The Police Officers Association of Michigan and the Command Officers Association of Michigan released a joint statement Friday night.

They were responding to Earley's decision to address the Milton Hall case. Hall was shot and killed July 1. Six police officers fire 46 shots at him. Police say he had a knife and was threatening them.

We are still waiting for a final ruling from the Saginaw County prosecutor about whether the officers were justified in their actions, or if excessive force was used.

The POAM/COAM statement says, in part, "The Saginaw city manager, in an effort to discredit the hard working professionals of the police department, has chosen to rely on unproven facts, innuendo and speculation in the debate involving wrong doing by members of the department. This is an unfortunate circumstance as it creates anxiety among both the police officers and the citizens of the community."
