(09/12/12) - Volunteers and supporters showed up by the dozens Wednesday, asking Genesee County commissioners to bring back a recently suspended animal shelter program.
That program was suspended last Thursday.
Animal Control's Chief Officer Walt Rodabaugh has previously said union issues, tied to those volunteers, led to him shutting it down.
New Tuesday - he says threats, some online, actually prompted the suspension. They were threats made to employees, who are concerned about their safety.
But Rodabaugh stressed the volunteer program is needed.
The volunteers walk dogs and clean cages, for example. There was a lot of passion from the people at the hearing. They want to be working with the animals and want to be allowed back in.
